## Description

An opportunity to purchase a Pionier 10 (Classic Boat) with only 16 years of sailing and hand fitted-out to a high standard. (Launched in October 1999)

This is a "cruising vessel with winning ways". There would be nothing like a sail to show a would-be buyer what a lovely boat it is to manage even when sailing single handed. It turns on a sixpence, doesn't need muscle, just a loving touch.

The Pionier 10 was designed by E. G. Van de Stadt in 1970 as a cruiser racer and the Southern Ocean Shipyard boat won Class 4 in the 1971 Fastnet Race and was well placed overall.

Originally purchased in the form of a hull and a kit of parts from Southern Ocean Shipyard in 1973, this Pionier 10 has been expertly fitted out by its single owner. It boasts an interior woodwork that is to a higher standard than equivalent production boats.

The teak seats and cockpit floor in particular, have been formed with a contoured shape that gives comfort and security at sea.

The boat has been kept afloat in Poole Yacht Club since it was launched in 1999 and has been lightly used, mainly sailing single-handedly around Poole Bay and its environs.

The owner has had to retire from the sport as he is no longer able to sail or maintain the boat and is eager to sell to a younger more energetic person.

A copy of the pre-launch survey is available which includes the statement that "The yacht has been finished with great skill by Mr Mason to a high standard of workmanship"

"Pioneer 10

As the 1960s turned into the 1970s, the Van de Stadt office produced another very attractive "winner" that made a lot of friends in the UK. The 9.7m (31ft 10in) Pioneer 10 is a lot beamier (3.0m) than her Pioneer ancestor of a decade earlier, and her keel is a more defined "fin" that bolts straight onto the base of a canoe hull.

Yachts like Dick Carter's revolutionary One Ton Cup winner Tina had proved that this development of Van de Stadt's original fin keel plus spade rudder concept was the way to go. Van de Stadt's office got it right once again, and the Pioneer 10 went on to notch up a notable victory in the Fastnet Race. Yet she is still a very attractive cruiser with a spacious and comfortable interior."

The Owner would like me to point out that he is only selling due to his age and health deterioration and is keen for her to go to a good home.

## Accommodation

- Fore Cabin
- Two vee berths without cushions, fiddle lockers above the berths and two lights. There is storage space under the berths, forward and to each side. The loads from the rigging baby stay are taken by a wire strop from the deck-head to the hull between the berths. There is a bi-fold door to separate the fore cabin from the heads, mounted on brass piano hinges and with teak trim around the finger holds.
- Heads
- Walk through heads with a Blakes Lavac toilet (as yet unused) to port and generous hanging locker to starboard. The toilet is mounted on a plinth with the Blakes bronze sea cocks and fresh water foot pump beneath. The toilet is flushed with a Henderson Mk5 pump. Above the toilet is a slide out stainless steel sink with a fold-a-way faucet and separate drain.
- Outboard is a locker for stowage of all toiletries. The hanging locker has ample space for all wet weather gear and drainage to the bilges. There is a second bi-fold door to separate the heads from the main saloon.
- Main Saloon
- Settee berths each side with cushions and varnished wooden back supports that hinge up to access storage space outboard. The bunk backs can be folded upward to provide an additional two berths if required.
- The water tank is below the berths plus some more storage. There are lockers each side above the berths for more storage.
- The saloon table has ample room for four people to sit and enjoy a meal. Chart table will take a folded Admiralty chart on top and many more charts inside. There is a bin locker outboard of the chart table useful for many thinks.
- Access to the Engine is by removal of the companionway steps.
- Galley
- The galley has a modern two burner and grill cooker with flame failure gas shut off and is mounted on gimbals.
- Above the cooker is a stainless steel heat deflector as requested by the pre launch surveyor.
- Below the cooker is a cutlery draw and locker for pan stowage. Outboard is dedicated stowage for crockery and mugs
- Immediately aft is the stainless steel sink and a deep ice box with drainage to the bilges.
- Fresh water is supplied with a foot operated pump via a Jabsco water filter.
- Quarter Berth
- Extends back from the chart table. The two batteries are mounted in a box beneath the quarter berth and have a four position control switch for No 1, No 2, No 1 & 2, and Off.

## Mechanical and rigging

- Engine
- The Wortham Blake Engine is the marinised version of the 1600cc Ford Crossflow as used in the Cortina and Escort cars. The engine is serviced annually and runs very sweetly. It fires-up first time after a winter lay-up. Parts and service are available from Sheridan Marine.
- Due to the boats light use the engine has probably run less than 60 hours per year, however there is no meter so this is an approximation.
- Thoroughly serviced by a specialist Ford Marine engineer three years ago who said "this is the sweetest ford engine I have heard".
- Each year the cooling system is drained down and the oil replaced with a new filter inserted.
- There is an alternator to charge the batteries (replaced about three years ago).
- But it also has two modern solar panels which trickle charge the batteries during hours of daylight which keeps them fully topped-up at all times via a controller.
- The Pionier 10 has a hand laid GRP hull and deck with bonded-in Bruynzeel marine plywood bulkheads and a moulded head lining. The main bulkhead, stiffened with two overhead beams, takes the loads from the mast. The chain plates are through bolted from the deck onto the main bulkhead and the half bulkhead which are fully bonded to the hull with six layers of fibre glass on each face. The cast iron keel was sheathed in fibre glass, secured to the hull on stainless steel studs through fibre glass covered hard wood bearers.
- The rudder is mounted on a stainless steel fabrication welded to the solid stainless steel stock, with upper and lower bearings. The tiller is mounted on a keyed taper on the rudder stock.
- Six coats of epoxy resin were applied to the hull below the waterline prior to launching.
- Electrics
- 2 x 12V Batteries charged via Solar Panels and Engine Alternator
- Sails and Spars
- Proctor Gold deck mounted single spreader mast, masthead rigged using Lewmar bronze rigging screws, Proctor boom and spinnaker pole.
- All standing S.S. rigging inspected five years ago by a specialist rigger (Poole Rigging Service) when the masthead light was upgraded.
- Sails
- Butler Verner Sails consist of a main, genoa, working jib, storm jib and spinnaker
- There is also a No.2 Genoa (unknown make)
- The main sail has three reefing points but the slab reefing cables are only permanently connected to the first two. To engage the top reefing point the first cable has to be detached and reconnected to the third point. (This has never proved to have been necessary as the second reef has always coped adequately to date.
- There is a main sail cover with lazy jacks for easy control when dropping the main sale.
- All running rigging is present including sheets and guys for the spinnaker which together with the storm jib, has never been hoisted.
- Winches
- Halyard winches are mounted on deck at the base of the mast, the reefing winch is on the mast and the genoa sheet winches and spinnaker sheet winches are in the cockpit. Altogether 6 Lewmar winches and one Gibb winch.
- Equipment
- Main Anchor: CQR drop forge anchor attached to 8mm chain and nylon warp, marked for depth
- Kedge Anchor: CQR and nylon warp
- Three mooring cleats on the foredeck and two mooring cleats aft , all with under-deck reinforcement plates.
- Stainless steel pulpit and pushpit, safety lines all round the boat.
- Various fenders, warps and mooring lines including stand for holding mooring lines on pontoon finger when out of berth, together with a boat hook.
- Webasto 2000 diesel air heater mounted in starboard stern locker with its own tank, for feeding hot air into the main cabin, Corus Tiller Pilot TP300cx with 12v socket in the cockpit,
- Vertex Standard VM-3500E VHF radio with cockpit repeater,
