Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 33

The Sun Odyssey 33 is a discontinued Jeanneau cruiser with a lot of room for her size, suited to families and small crews who want easy sailing.

The Sun Odyssey 33 is no longer built, but she's worth knowing about because of how much living space she packs into a hull of 9.98 m. Jeanneau said she was the only yacht under 10 meters with 4 rooms, and once you're below it's easy to see why people took to her. Daniel Andrieu set out to give her character, a responsive helm and the potential for speed without losing that space.

She was laid out for simple sailing. The main traveller and winches are on the coachroof, which keeps the cockpit clear, and she came with a wheel as standard. The rigging is recessed and the genoa furling gear sits below the deck line. A furling main was an option.

At anchor there's a sundeck forward and a roomy cockpit, with a removable table offered as an extra. The transom extension has a built-in swim ladder, and the side decks are wide enough to move fore and aft without fuss.

The saloon has good headroom and a settee that converts to a double berth. Eleven hatches and ports bring in plenty of light and air. In the 3-cabin version each cabin has a large hanging locker, decent floor space and its own portholes. The galley runs in line along one side with lots of stowage, and a sliding settee lets you close off the saloon completely.

The 2-cabin version puts the saloon athwartships and has a larger L-shaped galley to port, with a big worktop, gimballed stove, drawers and lockers. Either way, the interior is well thought out from the chart table to the heads, finished with solid teak mouldings and fascias.

She's 10.3 m overall with a draught of 1.97 m, and carries 65 l of fuel and 290 l of fresh water.
