Privacy Policy
Last updated: 26 October 2026
1. Introduction
1.1 We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our website visitors and customers.
1.2 This policy applies where we act as a data controller for the personal data of our website visitors and customers — in other words, where we decide the purposes and means of processing that personal data.
1.3 When you first visit our website we ask whether you consent to optional cookies, as explained in section 7 and our Cookie Policy. You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page.
1.4 In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” refer to YACHTS.CO INTERNATIONAL LTD. For more information about us, see section 11.
2. How we use your personal data
2.1 In this section we set out the kinds of personal data we may process, why we process it, and the legal basis for doing so.
2.2 Usage data. If you allow analytics cookies, we process data about how you use our website: your IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, referral source, length of visit, pages viewed and navigation paths. This comes from Google Analytics and is used to understand and improve our website. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
2.3 Enquiry data. When you send us an enquiry (through a form on our website, by email, by phone or on WhatsApp) we process the details you give us, such as your name, email address, phone number, your message and the boat you are asking about. We use them to reply and to help you buy, sell or configure a boat, and we email you an acknowledgement. If you tell us about a boat to part-exchange, or make an offer on a boat, we process those details in the same way, and pass the amount you offer to the boat’s owner. If you message us on WhatsApp from our website, the message already names the page or boat you were looking at; you can change it before you send it. The legal basis is taking steps, at your request, before entering into a contract with you, and our legitimate interest in responding to enquiries. A copy of every enquiry, request and estimate you send through our website is kept in our customer records system (HubSpot), so our team can see your enquiries together; this applies to everything in sections 2.3 to 2.6.
2.4 Quotes, requests and searches. When you ask for a Boat Builder estimate or an engine quote, use our Servicing, Parts, Sell your boat, Insurance or Find me a boat forms, or book an appointment at an event, we process your name and contact details, the details you give us (for example the boat, engine and options you chose, details of your own boat or engine, what you are looking for, and any photos you upload) and the event, day and time you choose. We use them to provide what you asked for, email you a copy or a link back to it, and so our team can come back to you. If you ask us to look for a boat for you, we check new boats against what you asked for and email you when one fits, for up to six months; every such email has a way to stop them. The legal basis is taking steps, at your request, before entering into a contract with you.
2.5 Alerts and lists you ask for. If you ask us to tell you when a boat’s price drops, to tell you about boats like one that has sold, or to email you the boats you have saved or are comparing, we process your name, contact details and the boats concerned, to send what you asked for and so our team can follow up. A price-drop alert lasts for up to a year, and every alert has a way to stop it. The legal basis is your request; you can ask us to stop at any time.
2.6 Photos of boats no longer for sale. To see all the photos of a boat that has sold or is no longer available, we ask for your name, email address and why you’d like to see them, so a broker can contact you about that boat or similar ones. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering people interested in the boats we sell.
2.7 Selling your boat with us. When we prepare the listing for your boat, we keep your name and email address with it, so we can send you the listing to check and record whether you approve it. Your name and email address are never shown on our website, in the brochure or in any listing feed. The legal basis is performing our contract with you to sell your boat.
2.8 Customer data. If you buy or sell a boat through us, or we otherwise provide our services to you, we process the information needed to do so: for example your name, address, contact details and identification, the boat’s details and the transaction details. The legal basis is the performance of our contract with you, and compliance with our legal obligations (for example anti-money-laundering checks and tax records).
2.9 Marketing and newsletter data. If you tick the box on one of our forms to hear from us, we process your contact details to send you news, boats, events and offers. The box is never ticked for you, and we keep a record of your consent with your enquiry. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time; every message includes a way to unsubscribe.
2.10 Marketing cookies and advertising. If you allow marketing cookies, HubSpot records which pages and boats you look at on our website, so we can see how it's used and, if you get in touch, which boats you were interested in; and, if you came from one of our Google ads, Google Ads is told when you then get in touch, so we can see which ads work. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
2.11 Where your enquiry came from. When you send an enquiry, we note how you reached our website (for example a search engine, an advert or another website) and the boat you asked about, and keep your contact details in a consistent form so your enquiries are kept together. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding which of our marketing works and in keeping your enquiries accurate.
2.12 Counting and keeping our website working. Our website counts how often each boat is shown, opened, saved and enquired about, and notes when part of a page goes wrong on a particular browser. These are totals only, with no cookies and no personal data. To stop spam and misuse of our forms, our website briefly uses a scrambled form of your IP address that can’t be turned back into the address; it is never stored with your enquiry and is deleted within 24 hours. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running our business and keeping our website secure and working.
2.13 Finance and brochures. The finance examples on our boat pages use only the boat’s price and age; nothing about you is sent. If you choose to try your own figures, you go to the lender’s website and its privacy policy applies. If you ask us about finance, it forms part of your enquiry (section 2.3). Boat brochures can be downloaded without giving any details.
2.14 Correspondence data. We keep the content of messages you send us, and related details such as the date and time, to communicate with you and keep records. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in running our business and communicating with customers.
2.15 Saved boats. Boats you save or add to “Compare” are stored only in your own browser, on your device. They are not sent to us unless you ask us to email you the list (section 2.5).
2.16 We may process any of the personal data described in this policy where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, or to obtain or maintain insurance, manage risks or take professional advice. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in protecting our business and our legal rights, and those of others.
2.17 We may also process your personal data where necessary to comply with a legal obligation, or to protect your vital interests or those of another person.
2.18 How we use AI. We use AI tools (Claude, provided by Anthropic) to help write and check some of the wording on our website, as explained on our How We Use AI page. These tools are given only boat details, photos and our own posts, never your enquiries or any other personal data about you. We do not use AI or any other automated decision-making to make decisions about you.
2.19 Google reviews. Our website shows a selection of the reviews people have left on our Google business listings: the reviewer’s name as it appears on Google, their rating, the date and their words, with a link to the review on Google. We get these from Google each day and show only what Google currently shows publicly; a review removed from Google usually drops off our website within a day. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in showing what our customers say about us. If you would like your Google review removed from our website, contact us (section 12).
2.20 Please do not give us anyone else’s personal data unless we ask for it and you have their permission.
3. Who we share your personal data with
3.1 We may share your personal data with other companies in our group where reasonably necessary for the purposes and on the legal bases set out in this policy.
3.2 We use trusted service providers who process personal data on our behalf, under contract and only on our instructions: Microsoft (website hosting, secure storage of the enquiries and requests sent through our website, in Europe, and the emails our website sends you, such as the acknowledgement of a service, parts or valuation request and your Boat Builder estimate), HubSpot (our customer records, including a copy of the enquiries and requests you send through our website, and your visits to it if you allow marketing cookies), Google (website analytics and advertising, if you consent) and WhatsApp (if you choose to contact us that way).
3.3 Where reasonably necessary to provide our services — for example when arranging a survey, finance, insurance, transport or the sale of a boat — we may share relevant personal data with the parties involved, such as surveyors, lenders, insurers, the other party to the sale and their broker.
3.4 We will only pass your enquiry details to another supplier of goods or services when you ask us to. That supplier will then act as a data controller for your data and will give you its own privacy policy. For example, if you ask for an insurance quote and agree to it on the form, we email your details and answers to our insurance partner, Haven Knox-Johnston, so they can contact you.
3.5 We may disclose your personal data to our insurers and professional advisers where reasonably necessary, where required by law, or where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
4. International transfers
4.1 Our website is hosted by Microsoft Azure in Europe. Some of our service providers (including HubSpot and Google) may process personal data in the United States or other countries outside the UK.
4.2 Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, it is protected by UK adequacy regulations (for example for the European Economic Area, or for US organisations certified under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework) or by the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can ask us for more information about these safeguards using the contact details in section 11.
5. How long we keep your personal data
5.1 We keep personal data only for as long as we need it for the purposes described in this policy.
5.2 In particular:
- enquiry and correspondence data is kept while we are in contact with you and for up to 7 years after our last contact;
- customer and transaction records are kept for 7 years after the transaction, to meet our tax and legal obligations;
- photos you upload with a service, parts, valuation or insurance request are kept for up to 2 years;
- marketing data is kept until you unsubscribe or withdraw your consent;
- price-drop and similar-boat alerts are kept until you ask us to stop, or the boat is no longer for sale and we have followed up;
- the scrambled form of your IP address used to protect our forms is kept in memory for at most 24 hours; and
- analytics data is kept by Google Analytics for up to 14 months.
5.3 We may keep personal data for longer where we are legally required to, or to protect your vital interests or those of another person.
6. Your rights
6.1 Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- access the personal data we hold about you, free of charge;
- have inaccurate data corrected and incomplete data completed;
- have your data erased in certain circumstances;
- restrict how we process your data in certain circumstances;
- object to processing based on our legitimate interests, and to direct marketing at any time;
- receive data you have given us in a portable, machine-readable format, where processing is based on consent or a contract and carried out by automated means; and
- withdraw your consent at any time, where processing is based on consent. This does not affect processing already carried out.
6.2 Some of these rights are subject to exceptions — for example, we may need to keep certain records to meet a legal obligation or to defend a legal claim. We will explain if an exception applies when you make a request.
6.3 To exercise any of your rights, contact us using the details in section 11 or 12.
6.4 If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, please tell us so we can put it right. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO): ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, telephone 0303 123 1113.
7. Cookies
7.1 A cookie is a small file that a website stores in your browser. We only use cookies that aren’t strictly necessary — for analytics and marketing — if you agree to them.
7.2 We use:
- strictly necessary storage to remember your cookie choice and the boats you save or compare;
- analytics cookies (Google Analytics), with your consent, to understand how our website is used — Google’s privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy; and
- marketing cookies (HubSpot and Google Ads), with your consent, as described in section 2.10.
7.3 Our Cookie Policy lists each cookie and how long it lasts.
8. Managing cookies
8.1 You can change your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” at the foot of every page. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser’s settings — see your browser’s help pages, for example for Chrome, Firefox or Safari.
8.2 Blocking all cookies may stop some features of our website, such as saved boats, from working.
9. Changes to this policy
9.1 We may update this policy from time to time by publishing a new version on our website, and will show the date of the latest version at the top. Where changes are significant we may also let you know by email.
10. Children
10.1 Our website and services are not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18.
