Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 36.2

A previous-model Jeanneau cruiser of 11 m with two or three cabins, quick in light winds and roomy enough for couples or families who like to spend time aboard.

The Sun Odyssey 36.2 is no longer built, but she's worth a look for anyone wanting a lively, easily handled cruiser. Jacques Fauroux drew her with a light touch, and she moves well even in light winds, staying responsive enough that you always feel in control. Jeanneau rated her the fastest of her competitors at this size.

She's 11 m overall with a hull length of 10.65 m and a draught of 1.9 m. The broad stern makes room for pedestal steering and a cockpit table, and the cockpit is kept clear, with a stern platform aft. Below, there's good airflow, easy movement through the boat and 1,90 m (6'4") of standing headroom throughout the saloon. Tanks hold 150 l of fuel and 350 l of fresh water, and she's rated for 6 people.

There were two layouts. The three-cabin version with saloon was the popular choice. The two-cabin owner's version gives you two large seats facing the saloon, a comfortable spot for reading, music or conversation, with a quarterberth as an option. It also has a separate shower running on from the heads, something you'd normally only find on boats over 13 metres (42 feet). Its single aft cabin has a berth of 4 square metres, so you can sleep across it or lengthways.

The joinery is teak, finished in the traditional way, with solid mouldings. Upholstery came in thick velvet, or Alcantara as an option.
