Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.1
A previous-model Jeanneau cruiser with twin wheels, furling sails and a roomy master cabin, suited to families and couples planning longer passages.
The Sun Odyssey 45.1 is a model Jeanneau no longer builds, but she was designed with plenty of room inside long, clean lines. She's 14.15 m overall with a 13.8 m hull and 2 m of draught, and was offered with 3 or 4 cabins.
She's quick and keeps a steady trim, with a light helm, so even under spinnaker you can hand the steering over to the autopilot. Engine controls and instruments are mounted on the helm console where you can reach and read them easily. A rigid vang and furling main and genoa keep sail handling simple.
The cockpit is laid in Burmese teak and built around a large table, so it works as a living space in its own right. A gate leads through to the transom extension. The twin wheels leave a clear walkway down the middle, and the split backstay makes getting in and out of the cockpit easier. The swim ladder folds away into its own locker, keeping the extension tidy.
Below, the saloon dinette is generous, and up to ten can sit around the central table. The master cabin is large, bright and quiet, set up for long cruises, with a separate shower compartment opposite the owner's head. Tankage is 205 l of fuel and 600 l of fresh water, and she's rated for a maximum of 8 people.
